Tinubu to attend the Inauguration ceremony of Mahamat Déby as Chad's president

In order to attend President Mahamat Déby's inauguration ceremony, President Bola Tinubu will leave Abuja on Thursday, May 23, for N'Djamena, Republic of Chad.

President Tinubu will travel from Abuja to N'Djamena, the capital city of Chad, on Thursday and will return following the event, according to a statement released by presidential spokesperson Ajuri Ngelale on Wednesday.

The constitutional council announced this week that Déby, the interim president of Chad, had won the May 6 presidential election.

The country's political transition from military control to democracy came to a close with the election.

In addition to declaring the winner, Prime Minister Succes Masra's attempt to have the Constitutional Council reverse the decision was denied.

In a social media post, Masra—who had declared victory—stated that while he disagreed with the outcome, "there is no other national legal recourse." In order to "remain mobilized," he urged supporters to be "peaceful."

Deby asked for the election in order to put an end to the three years of military rule in a nation that is vital to the war against terrorism in the unstable Sahel region of Africa.

Declared the winner, Deby remained silent for a moment. But on May 9, after the preliminary results were announced, he proclaimed himself "the elected president of all Chadians" and vowed to honor his "commitments."
