At Forest, Podence earns a point for the Wolves

Daniel Podence, a substitute and Wolves' leading scorer, saved a point for his team in a 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest.

Adama Traore made some early gains for Wolves from the right channel, but Forest gradually seized control and eventually took the lead thanks to a skillfully executed goal from Brennan Johnson.

With their front three of Johnson, Emmanuel Dennis, and Morgan Gibbs-White wreaking havoc with breakaway attempts, the hosts upped the intensity in the second half but wasted several golden chances to double their lead.

With Julen Lopetegui's team stuttering and struggling to create opportunities on goal, the Spanish brought on top scorer Podence at halftime. The move paid off when the Portugal international sold Neco Williams with a feint and hammered past Keilor Navas with seven minutes left in regulation.

As a result, there is now only one point separating the teams in the Premier League standings, with Wolves sitting in 13th place with 28 points and Forest in 14th place with one game remaining.

Flashpoints were present. Following a boisterous sequence of play in which Felipe tugged on Traore's shoulder to earn Wolves a penalty, Forest coach Alan Tate and Wolves assistant Pablo Sanz were shown red cards for grasping each other.

Ruben Neves, the captain of the Wolves, was also issued his tenth caution of the year and now faces a two-match suspension, but Podence escaped punishment after seeming to spit at Johnson in the dying seconds of the game.

Forest will learn a lot from this game, but failing to prevail against a relegation opponent after extended stretches of dominance could be crucial in May.
