At Monday's #FreeNnamdiKanu protest in Abuja, human rights campaigner Omoyele Sowore accused security personnel of attacking peaceful demonstrators without cause.
Sowore revealed this on Monday during an interview on Channels Television's "The Morning Brief."
Shortly after the demonstration started in front of the Transcorp Hilton Abuja, he claimed, security personnel started shooting.
Additionally, he revealed that certain people were arrested during the event, including the lawyer and younger brother of Nnamdi Kanu, who were allegedly beaten before being brought to the FCT Command of the Nigeria Police Force.
They did make some arrests in the end. I've heard that both Nnamdi Kanu's lawyer and his younger brother were detained and assaulted. All of them have been brought to the FCT Command.
As soon as we began the protest, roughly ten trucks showed up. As stated, there was no provocation on our part; the protest was nonviolent and well-organized.
They began shooting at us out of the blue, using tear gas and firing a few live rounds. They were simply shooting all around us, but fortunately, I don't believe anyone was injured by live bullets," he stated.
