Chief Amitolu Shittu, the original Osun State Commandant of Amotekun, has requested Governor Ademola Adeleke to turn over Isaac Omoyele, the outfit's fugitive commandant, to the Inspector General of Police in connection with his corps' murders in Akinlalu town.
Three members of the same family and another resident were killed by Amotekun agents who broke into the Akinlalu market square, The Nation reports, while multiple others were shot. The police denied Omoyele's later assertion that he barely avoided being assassinated.
Then, on Wednesday evening, 25 Amotekun corps were taken into custody by the IGP's Intelligence Response Team (IRT). It shut down the group's Ife Central Office as well as their operational-amoury base at Oke-Fia, Osogbo.
Amitolu denounced the murders of defenseless citizens in Osun State by Amotekun corps in an interview with reporters on Saturday, saying, "Since I left office, the outfit has been personalised by its new leadership which makes Amotekun to derail from the reason for its creation."
"The current leadership engaged the services of ex-convicts, thugs, and cultists," he stated in reference to the recruitment of 1,000 corps. If Governor Adeleke is unable to dissolve the corps, I want to encourage him of looking into it and profiling the recruits.
