FIFA World Cup: Jackson County unveils their 2026 World Cup plan

To draw more commerce during the 2026 World Cup, Lee's Summit city council members authorized temporary rule modifications.

The council unanimously approved amending ordinances on Tuesday that would permit food trucks to operate around the city's downtown at all hours and companies to use more signage for six weeks during World Cup play.

The council also voted against allowing parades, fireworks displays, or big parties other than those that are customarily observed in the neighborhood.

The proprietor of Team Cocktail, a Third Street establishment, Lyndsey Fliehs, stated, "We want as many people here as possible."

Fliehs and other retailers are getting ready for an estimated 650,000 soccer spectators, according to a 2026 World Cup figure.  They value the adjustments being made by city officials to promote company owners' flexibility.

"I believe our goal is to attract new clients," Fliehs stated.  "Whether they're traveling locally, across the United States, or from abroad, we hope they find these really cool local businesses to love, support, and take home with them."

Tracy Albers, director of development services for the City of Lee's Summit, stated, "I think the key is making sure our business community has the flexibility they need while ensuring our residents could still function as they always have during those six weeks."

According to Matt Baird, the head of the Lee's Summit Chamber, businesses are being urged to use innovative strategies to draw clients.
