Eight toddlers and ten children were rescued by police after they were allegedly taken by a syndicate that is well-known for kidnapping, snatching, and purchasing children from various illicit sources in the state with the goal of either selling them to their syndicates or trafficking them to other regions of the nation.

Speaking about the situation on Friday, the state's commissioner of police, CP Danladi Isa, revealed that the command had already taken ten suspected members of the child trafficking group into custody.

Mrs. Best Ndubusi, a 41-year-old woman from Apaa Osokwa, Osisioma LGA, Abia State; Charles Enyinnaya, a 25-year-old man from Umuogele Ovom, Aba South LGA, Abia State; Eunice Ezekiel, a 35-year-old woman from No. 1 Foursquare, Umukalika, Aba South LGA, Abia State; and Nnena Kalu, a 60-year-old woman from Osisioma LGA, Abia State.

The state police chief also mentioned Gideon Esther, a 25-year-old woman from Amalek by Amencha 7Up, Aba, Abia State; Obiegbunam Von, a 65-year-old woman from Aba, Abia State; Ezeoma Rejoice, a 21-year-old woman from Aba, Abia State; Ngozi Owoh, a 20-year-old woman from Aba, Abia State; Favour Ernest, a 22-year-old woman from Aba, Abia State; and Brittney Oyemuwa Zion, a 22-year-old man from Amuoji Uku, Obingwa LGA, Abia State.

"On September 27, 2025, at approximately 09:40 hours, a complaint was received at Ohuru Isimiri Police Divisional Headquarters that a young woman from Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, came to Aba with her two children (male and female) under the guise of marriage," Isa stated, providing details of the arrest.

The man instructed her to purchase food for herself and the kids when they arrived in Aba, while he stayed with the kids.  Upon her return, she failed to see the man and her kids, and her attempts to contact him were unsuccessful.

Based on reliable and actionable intelligence, Command officers stormed a home suspected of housing stolen children on August 10, 2025, arrested five suspects—Mrs. Best Ndubusi, Charles Enyinnaya, Eunice Ezekiel, Nnena Kalu, and Gideon Esther—and rescued seven children and an infant.

As part of the investigation, Command officers invaded a second home on Aba/Owerri Road on 09/10/2025, where more stolen children were being held.  Seven newborns and three children were rescued, and four suspects—Obiegbunam Von, Ezeoma Rejoice, Ngozi Owoh, and Favour Ernest—were taken into custody.

Officers from the Command arrested Brittney Oyemuwa Zion, another suspect, and saved one child today, October 10, 2025.  The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) is still investigating.

"The public is encouraged to visit the SCID's Gender Section at Abia State Command or call the OC Gender at 08033173846 if they are looking for their missing or stolen infants or children."

In keeping with the Inspector-General of Police's mission, Isa reaffirmed the Command's steadfast dedication to fighting crime and guaranteeing everyone's safety and security for long-term socioeconomic and political growth.

He also advised the good people of Abia State to maintain their security awareness, make sure that their children and wards are properly supervised, and report any suspicious activity or people right away to the local police station or the Command's emergency hotlines.
